Overview
Civil engineering is as old as the human civilization itself. Yet, paradoxically – this field of science constantly reinvents itself; it changes, sets new trends, and adapts to a contemporary world’s needs.
Probably the greatest challenge for today’s engineers is how to make the most effective use of digital tools (buildings’ information modeling, 3D printing, and others) that enable the creation of the most complex structures quickly and economically, meeting the needs of society and individuals.
While studying at KTU, you will get acquainted with the main processes of design, construction, installation, and operation of buildings. This is general but essential knowledge that will allow you to choose the desired specialization in later years of study and focus more on the chosen topic: structures, technologies, or building engineering systems.
BSc in Civil Engineering at KTU offers a broad spectrum of courses to prepare the graduates for the dynamic environment of the construction business.
• Hands-on experience through practical tasks
• Working with contemporary software packages, such as Building Information Modelling software (BIM), Revit, Scia Engineering, Tekla, DDS-CAD, Bentley, which enable the construction process to move to 5D or even 7D dimensions
• Out of classroom activities and field trips to construction offices, factories, and construction sites
Top reasons to study at KTU:
1. Building Information Modelling (BIM), applied in the study process, equips the students with the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct, and manage buildings and infrastructure.
2. Wide range of international industry partners provides the students hands-on experience in the class and on the site. The best students may be offered to be employed after successful practice.
3. Testing ideas and technological solutions at professionals’ competitions “Technorama”, “Lithuanian BIM Awards”, “Structum” and many more.
Programme structure
On top of the core study modules, you will be able to choose from three specializations which will allow you to deepen your knowledge in a particular field and be a pathway to your postgraduate studies:
Engineering Structures
Analysis of the impact on building structures
Fundamentals of calculation of building structures
Design of building structures
Construction Technology
Preparation of construction estimates
Planning and organization of construction works
Construction process management
Buildings Services Systems Engineering
Heating and ventilation systems
Automation of engineering systems in buildings
Water supply and sewage disposal systems
If you have any questions about programme structure, study processes and/or student life in the Civil Engineering and Architecture faculty, you are welcome to book a consultation.
Career opportunities
„In my opinion, Bachelor degree studies of Civil Engineering at KTU are really promising and useful. As soon as I defended by Bachelor degree thesis at the qualification commission, I received congratulations, as well as an offer to work at design company AB “Pramprojektas” from one commission member. During studies I deepened my knowledge in design of structures for construction objects, I learned to work in team and make individual decisions, acquired fundamental knowledge and skills, which I later improved at the design company. It was interesting to study, knowing that I will be able to apply the acquired knowledge preparing projects for various buildings and constructions. It is a pleasure to see the objects designed by me travelling through Lithuania. After graduation I entered Master degree studies. During Master degree studies and my work at the company I got acquainted with the specifics of design, learned to use the latest design programmes. I had a great opportunity to work and at the same time study at the second cycle studies. Soon after graduation I was appointed the company’s head of design department. When I gained sufficient experience in the area of design, I established my own company, which is still successfully working in Lithuanian market. I welcome the students of civil engineering for a professional placement at my company and offer employment to the most talented ones. However, I would like to wish the students of engineering not to be naive and expect that when they receive a diploma, their head will be filled with the information required for work. That is not so… You have to have a constant willingness to improve, sometimes you have sleepless nights, because that is how you acquire practical practice and become a specialist of your area” – UAB “Sava ranga”, Director, Irmantas Burinskas.
“During studies the person learns not only a certain “craft”, but also develops an ability to communicate with people, which is very useful in the professional activities. Studies provide the ground and everything else depends on personal features – diligence, persistence, willingness to acquire knowledge, to move forward, and, of course, a little bit of luck.” – Mantas Raišys, UAB “IMMO-INVEST”, Director
