Overview
Mechanical engineering is possibly the oldest branch of engineering science. If not for mechanical engineers, the industrial revolution would not have taken place, and we would probably still be producing everything using our own two hands. Mechanical engineers creatively solve future engineering problems by developing new and improving existing technologies used in Machinery and tools, transport and aerospace, power and energy, medical and healthcare, sports and leisure, and other industries. It is an area of science on which the progress of global sustainable economic growth and future industrial prospects depend.
Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines and therefore provides some of the strongest interdisciplinary opportunities in the engineering profession. KTU’s Mechanical Engineering bachelor’s study program covers the analysis of different materials and technologies used in industry, the fundamentals of machine design, and product development. Its graduates will have the competencies and skills to develop equipment, components, and systems of mechanical nature while using contemporary CAD/CAE systems. These studies have a twin program option within the ECIU network.
For those who choose to specialize in thermal systems engineering, Idex Baltic offers a one-off scholarship of €500 to the top 8 students.
Values
Investor’s Internationally recognized quality of studies:
- In 2018, KTU BSc Mechanical Engineering study program was awarded Investor’s Spotlight quality label, established by Investor’s Forum together with the agency Invest Lithuania as proof that it meets the best expectations of international business and industry.
Personalized studies – according your needs:
Exceptional possibilities to personalize your studies are provided. Two semesters of alternatives in the Programme allow students of the BSc Mechanical Engineering study program to choose among the following alternatives:
- Expanding knowledge in the field of mechanical engineering by selecting studies in one of the proposed specializations;
- Development of competencies in practical engineering activities through one- or two-semester placements at engineering enterprises;
- International semester at partner European universities.
Specializations for modern industry:
- By choosing Specialized studies in “Design of Mechanical systems “ or “Robotics Engineering” you will become qualified and competent for carriers in contemporary business and industry. Students can choose the specialization according to their personal needs and motivation.
International Mobility within ECIU consortium:
- International semester studies at the ECIU universities (University of Twente (Netherlands), Linköping University (Sweden), Monterrey Institute of Technology (Mexico), University of Aveiro (Portugal), University of Stavanger (Norway), Trento university (Italy) according to the program “Minor in Mechanical Engineering” acquiring a certificate are possible.
World-class software and laboratories for studies:
- Graduates of the Programme will gain competencies and skills to develop equipment, components, and systems of mechanical nature while using contemporary CAD/CAE systems. The main of them used in studies Autodesk Inventor and SolidWorks are among the world’s leading solutions for PC modeling, analysis, and optimization of engineering systems and devices. Besides ANSYS, Comsol Multiphysics, CATIA, MTS TopCam, LS-DYNA, and MSC (Adams, Dytran, Nastran, Patran) are available in computer classes. Educational and research laboratories are equipped with GUNT laboratory stands, 3D prototyping and rapid tooling equipment, measurement equipment including the systems of Japanese corporation Mitutoyo, CNC machines, and many other.
Product and service development:
- Are you interested in creating real products and services while studying? It is now possible to test yourself by getting involved in a product development project (PDP). During the project, you will work in teams, collaborating with KTU researchers and social partners. While solving current, relevant problems you will improve your teamwork, project management, and problem-solving skills, deepen your professional knowledge and expand your career opportunities.
