Overview
Mechanical engineering is possibly the oldest branch of engineering science. If not for mechanical engineers, the industrial revolution would not have taken place, and we would probably still be producing everything using our own two hands. Mechanical engineers creatively solve future engineering problems by developing new and improving existing technologies used in medical, healthcare, sports and leisure, transporting and other industries. It is an area of science on which the progress of global economic development and the future industrial prospects depend.
Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest engineering disciplines and therefore provides some of the strongest interdisciplinary opportunities in the engineering profession. KTU’s Mechanical Engineering bachelor’s study programme covers the analysis of different materials and technologies used in industry, the fundamentals of machine design and product development. Its graduates will have competences and skills to develop equipment, components and systems of mechanical nature while using contemporary CAD/CAE systems. These studies have a twin programme option within the ECIU network.
In 2018, KTU BSc Mechanical Engineering study programme was awarded Investor’s Spotlight quality label, established by Investor’s Forum together with the agency Invest Lithuania. Investor’s Spotlight is awarded to those study programmes which best meet the expectations of the business and industry.
According to their interests, the students of BSc Mechanical Engineering study programme may choose among the following alternatives:
• Expanding knowledge in the field of mechanical engineering
• Development of competencies in practical engineering activities through one- or two-semester placements at engineering enterprises
• International semester at partner European universities
Top reasons to study at KTU:
1. The degree is run as a Twin Programme together with leading European universities under the ECIU (www.eciu.org). Mobile students receive ECIU certificates.
2. Students may choose 2 semesters according personal needs: to deepen theoretical knowledge, to gain practical experience at company, or to benefit from academic mobility.
3. Solidworks CSWA (Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate) qualification test and certificate along with the study programme.

_“Studies of Mechanical Engineering provides the essential knowledge, which is necessary for a mechanical engineer. This programme focuses both on fundamental knowledge of mechanical engineering, and on innovations of design, engineering analysis and production. Communication with lecturers is pleasant and efficient; they always provide additional consultations outside of lectures and by email.
While preparing my thesis, I used a chance to implement acquired theoretical knowledge in the practical project “Design of Tile Sanding Machine”. The project was implemented as the University’s cooperation with the producer of tiles, which the machine was designed for. Good theoretical preparation in previous academic years and constructive consultations with thesis supervisor enabled combination of acquired knowledge in the engineering project, which was implemented in the industry and defended with the best evaluation.
Assessing acquired knowledge and skills from the perspective of my personal career, I can speak positively about this study programme. In the first semester of the fourth year of studies I started working as a constructor at the company, which produces and assembles lifts. I have successfully worked at this position ever since.”_ – Simon Kazarian,Constructor at UAB “Paradis liftai”.
