On February 27, the results of QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019 were announced. Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) has been ranked the 2nd in Lithuania in Engineering and Technology and is among the 500 best universities in the world in the field.

Overall, the world universities were ranked in 5 subject areas – Arts & Humanities, Engineering & Technology, Life Sciences & Medicine, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences & Management. KTU was ranked in one subject area – Engineering & Technology – and in two subjects – Electrical & Electronic Engineering and Business & Management Studies.

“We are happy that the work of talented KTU researchers, teachers and students was noticed by the rankings team – KTU was ranked among 450 best in the world in the subject of Electrical & Electronic Engineering. Also, this year’s rankings disclosed one more strong side of the University – for the first time our Business & Management Studies (field of Social Sciences & Management) made it to the rankings”, says Lolita Jurkšienė, Head of KTU Performance Management Department.

According to QS World University Rankings by Subject 2019, KTU is among 451-500 institutions worldwide and the 3rd in Lithuania in the subject of Business & Management Studies. In the broad subject area of Engineering & Technology KTU is ranked 451-500, and in the subject of Electrical & Electronic Engineering – 401-451 among the world universities. In Lithuania, KTU is the 2nd both in the field and in the subject ranked.

Although KTU is sustaining its strong positions among the world’s 500 best universities in the field of Engineering & Technology for several years, this year its two subjects made it to the rankings for the first time. According to the organisers of the QS World University Rankings by Subject, it is very unusual for any institution to qualify for consideration in all 48 subjects.

In the Rankings, the world universities are ranked according to 5 criteria: Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Citation per Paper, H-Index. Among them, AR is the most influential. This year, the votes from over 83,000 academics from around the world were collected. Each academic counted has given their opinion on universities in their fields of expertise.
